How I changed my diet in 5 easy steps

If someone told me years back that I’ll be able to stop eating hot dog every day, I would probably have looked at that person and laughed. Seriously I was a junk food addict. I loved and enjoyed eating junk food every day. I also had the bad habit of eating late. Imagine eating eba by 10pm (I know! what???) I didn’t care about what it did to my skin or body. Yup I would gain weight like crazy every now and then.
I would look at a picture of Beyonce and say “body goals” but I didn’t do anything about it. I honestly never taught eating healthy was a big deal. Sometimes when I would want to do something about it, I’ll just go for a short jog and in my mind I’ve done something big and I should probably have lost 5kg. Ha!

My wakeup call came when I gained so much weight and I would look at myself in pictures and actually couldn’t recognize myself. I couldn’t even keep or save any of the pictures. I decided to REALLY do something about my lifestyle.

Honestly it was more of a mind thing for me, once I decided I wanted to start eating healthier, I started making changes. These where the steps I took to start eating healthy;

Step 1 – I eliminate junks
I didn’t go on a diet, I didn’t start working out for 5 hours in day. I still don’t even work out for 2 hours straight in a day. Instead I started by eliminating those things I found to be really unhealthy from my diet. Hot dog was one of those food. Eba was another food that had to go. Instead of taking junks as snacks, I would take crackers or fruits

Step 2 – Take your food to work
The good thing with healthy meals is that it doesn’t take time to prepare. So you can quickly mix or cut something up before heading to work in the morning. This saves you from going to a store and buying coke or artificial juice, gala and other snacks. If you have a restaurant that sells healthy meals close to your office, then that’s fine.

Step 3 – Don’t eat Carbs late
I wouldn’t recommend eating dinner after 7pm but sometimes we get caught up with other activities so keeping to this time might be difficult, but your limit should be 7:30pm. You might be thinking ‘ha, if I eat late, I will get hungry later at night’ if this happens, you can snack on something healthy like carrots or cucumber. See you have no excuse

Step 4 – Substitute foods
You can substitute a healthy food for one that helps you gain more weight. A good swap is avocado and butter or coconut and butter. Have you tried it? If you haven’t, please do, it’s so yummy.

Step 5 – Drink water
Yes! Yes! Yes! If you are subscribed to my bbm channel, you know by now that I talk about this a lot! And that’s because it’s important. I am not big on drinking lots of water so sometimes I infuse my water. Usually I just give myself a water goal for the day. I always have a bottle of water with me.
